GM-GMC: Title search, ss chevelle, ls6 454

Hello fellow expert. I am trying to locate a 1970 vehicle I should have never let go! In 1972 I purchased from a friend a 1970 Chevelle with an LS6 454. He also had a 1967 SS Chevelle that I later found at a lot and traded bodies. I still have the '67 and am now restoring it. I have the entire drive line from the '70 in it and am trying to locate the original body. I have an old registration card with a title number and motor number, but can not locate a site to research a vehicle this old. Every site says the vehicle number must be at least 17 characters long and neither of these numbers is. Do you know how I may research this? Thanks

My only thought would be a DMV.  They may be able to help you locate a vehicle, provided it is registered, by VIN.  Other than that, I don't know whether a dealer would be able to search a VIN on a vehicle that old or not.  I doubt it.  A newer vehicle yes, but not something from the 70's.  I will ask around at the next cruise night and repost if I find anything solid.
