GM-GMC: Power loss, vortec engine, tow trailers

Question
I have a 94 silverado 5.7. My truck dont have enough power in my opinion. it has 171,000 and when i accelerate the more i do the less power it seems to have. it runs good and sounds good just dont go. It will run down the road at posted speed but i tow trailers and am afraid it wont do the job. I just bought this truck 2 months ago and dont want to sell it but am at a lost. My previous truck was a 94 ram 5.9 and it seemed to have way more power.

Answer
The 94's are a pre-vortec engine and are not known to be power houses by any means.  A few things to check would be the base timing, to ensure you are getting all the power you can.  Check that the convertor or the exhaust is not partially plugged or restricted.  Same with the fuel filter and air filter.  Aside from that I am not sure what to tell you.  There is always a fine line between power and fuel economy, I just finished putting a rocker arm, exhaust, fuel injector and reprogram kit on an 06 5.3l chev.  The kit claims 45 more hp and 10% fuel savings.  Have a look around there may be similar things you could do to give you a few more ponies.
Hope this helps
