GM-GMC: 1999 gmc suburban k2500 7.4l 4WD, blown head gasket, fuel delivery system

Question
(1) My engine starts but barely idles. (2)It dies when the slightest amount of pressure is applied to the accelerator pedal. (3)Air is being forced into the cooling system while the engine is running. (4) The engine has 190,000 miles on it. I figured that I have a cracked head or blown head gasket. Should i have the engine rebuilt or can i just repair the heads/head gaskets? I can get a used engine for @ $500.00, but is not the same year and it is carbureted not fuel injected. Will I be able to use this other engine?

Answer
You will not be able to use the older engine with your current fuel delivery system.  I would advise removing the cylinder heads, looking at the gaskets and sending the heads out to a machine shop.  If you have had regualar services your bottom end should still have some life left in it.  The other option is of course to remove and rebuild.  I would pull the heads and go from there.
Hope this helps
