Chrysler Repair: Sebring 2002 wont start, sebring 2002, starter solenoid

Question
Hey Roland,

I am driving a Sebring 2002 LXI 2.7L engine on Sunday Feb. 8 with no problems. Parked my car and went to shopping. Forgot where I parked the car so I used (for the first time) the panic button to locate the car. Found it, started with no problems. Now, Monday morning, I try to star the car and no luck. no Ignition spark or noise or anything. I thought it was the batter so I jumped started it but no luck. Then, I found that windows work fine, sun roof works fine, horn, lights are all fine so I figured it is not the battery.

I opened the fuse box and swapt all realys around (no owner's manual in the car so couldn't locate the exact starter realy) but no luck.

What is interesting is the fact that you don't hear a single noise when you trying to start the car. no clicking or any spark noise to start the engine. At the same time, the battery seems perfectly okay.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Dino,
I am assuming that you aren't getting any starter motor action, though I may be mis-reading your history.
I would wonder if the safety interlock that requires the car be in park or neutral to allow the starter relay to close is out of adjustment. Try moving the gear shift lever slighty to either side of the detent position of the start or neutral position and they try the starter again to see if that gets it for you. If not, then it could be ignition switch, the starter relay or the starter solenoid or the wires that connect them at fault. The starter relay is the middle one of the three at the front of the underhood box. Listen for whether it clicks when a helper tries the starter. If it does, then that would say the problem is not the safety switch or the ignition switch.
Do you have a voltmeter or a 12v neon glow light to test for voltage? Let me know what happens and if I am misunderstanding. I will be available at 8 am CT tomorrow morning.
