GM-GMC: Engine Dies, fuel pressure gauge, starter switch

Question
QUESTION: I have a 1994 GM Sonoma Truck(xcab)with a v6 vortex engine. It has  approx 160,000 miles and runs well until it decides to die. I've replaced the fuel filter, distributor(cap & rotor), then the entire distributor, starter switch, catalytic converter(inside rusted), and then the fuel pump. All to no avail. The engine just dies when I'm driving down the road. The check engine light comes on and then the rest of the dash lights, then I coast to a stop. Most of the time, it will not restart immediately, although, I have restarted it as I rolled to a stop a couple of times. Most of the time, I have to sit for a few minutes b/4 it starts. The repair shop said it was the fuel pump on the computer code, but now it's doing it again after the pump was replaced. I'm approx $600 in the whole and still have a problem. Any ideas ???

ANSWER: If it was misdiagnosed the shop that you had it repaired at should be willing to look at for you at no charge and rediagnose it.  Do you know what the code was?

QUESTION: No I don't know what the code was, possibly something to do with the fuel pump. Do you have any ideas as to where to start. I'm concerned about going back to the shop.

Answer
You should first try to determine whether it is a fuel related concern or not.  I would install a fuel pressure gauge, and, when the truck stalls or dies, look at it and see what the reading is.  Once you know whether the concern is fuel related you will have some direction.
Hope that helps.
