GM-GMC: Tailgate - 2001 Silverado 1500 HD, latch releases, cable assembly

Question
Tailgate will not open when latch pulled.  Appears on one side the latch releases, but not the other.  Suspect broken cable if that is possible.  What would be the usual cause for this.

Ok , Let's get this repaired  for you . On the inside of the tailgate you will find a plastic cover plate . You can take a small piece(cover ) off by the handle assembly . Direct behind it . You can use a pliers and pull on the cable and you will be able to release the door down . Then You can take the entire cover off and replace the cable assembly . Sometimes there is a clip , These clips sometimes fall off and the handle turns . Make sure that you have a broken cable ... You will find the cable intact although loose , if this is it .. 2001 . is 7 years old? usually it takes longer to break , depands on use as well . Email back , any questions .
