GM-GMC: 98 Z71 4X4, drive shaft, driveshaft

Question
What is the best way to remove the u joint from the drive shaft? I read somewhere that sometimes heating it to a temperature of 500 degrees is the only way to remove a stubborn U-Joint. Please help me Randy! Thank you for your time.

Answer
Believe it or not there is a special tool for this job, however i dont think i've seen anyone use it! I usually use a press and sockets to remove and install joints. Sometimes i have to heat them others i do not. the only concern i would have is how much heat.  too much and you could make the driveshaft or yolk too soft to hold its shape under load. i would probally take it to an auto shop if its being stubborn. no use in wrecking your shaft over 50 bucks
