GM-GMC: Modifing the OEM glow plug circuit, e mail address, ac delco

Question
Mr Jacobson,

I have a Chevrolete Blazer 6.2L 379 diesel 1984. Its time to convert the OEM glow plug circuit to the manual type you spoke of in a previous article. Please discribe your conversion. If possible a schematic of your circuit would be nice!
How does the glow plug 6A843G050 on the webb site indusadist.com compare to AC-Delco 60G glow plugs you recommend in the same article.

Thanks for your help,

Steve

Answer
Steve,

The manual conversion simply replaces the controller, located above #7 cylinder, with a switch and some wire.  The  small connector on the glow plug relay is removed and the manual circuit is wired to those connections.  This modification works ONLY for 1982-1984 6.2 diesels with their two-part controller and relay system.  Newer diesels have to have a new relay installed to make manual control possible.

I do have a written procedure, with some photos, that I send those who provide an e-mail address.  I cannot list my e-mail address here for obvious reasons.  If you contact this site's administrator, you should be able to send me an e-mail address that I can send the information to.

As to the other brand of glow plug, I cannot provide any information becasue I am not familiar with that brand.  I do have a thrid party test where AC-60Gs were compared to John Kennedy's quick heat glow plugs.  Again, that information cannot be posted here.
