GM-GMC: 1995 gmc sierra 305 v8, gmc sierra, rectangular shapes

i have my tank dropped and can't get my fuel pump out to change it. is there some special way to remove it??

Answer
There is a ring on the top of the tank, where the fuel lines enter it, that has small rectangular shapes protruding above it.  Take a chisel and a small hammer and tap against one (or more, if the chisel starts cutting into the ring) of the rectangles to turn the ring in a counter-clockwise direction as viewed from the top of the tank.

To reinstall, tap the ring the other way.
