GM-GMC: 1988 chevy scottsdale 1500, synthetic gear lube, cold weather

Question
My truck has a manual trasmision, when its cold it will not go into gear until the truck warms up! what causes this? And its still hard to swich gears in cold weather after it warms up!

Answer
The biggest factor is likely the cold gear lube.

Motor oil gets thicker as the temperature drops and so does the  gear lube in the transmission and axle(s), which is anywhere from 3 to 9 times thicker than motor oil at any temperature.

You might want to but some synthetic gear lube and try it.

NOTE:  The above assumes that your clutch is working properly and is not worn out, warped, etc.
