GM-GMC: rear main seal, transmission fluid, motor oil

Question
I have a 1987 chevy s-10 blazer with a 2.8 v6 that was changed and now has around 60k miles on it.The tranny also was replaced around 2yrs ago. I got the truck about 2 months ago and i noticed when the truck gets warm and sits either ideling or off it leaks oil from in front of the tranny. If it is the rear main seal do i have to remove the motor or tranny to do this project? Any help would be nice thank.

Answer
If it is motor oil that is leaking, the engine and the transmission have to be separated so that the rear of the engine can be accessed.  The rear main seal is a one-piece design and cannot be removed and replaced any other way.  So, either the engine comes out or the transmission has to be removed.  On a 2WD vehicle, it is usually easier to remove the transmission.

If it is transmission fluid, the transmission has to come off the engine far enough to gain access to the front seal for replacement.
