GM-GMC: stanadyne DB2 injection pump application, injection pumps, mechanical pumps

Question
what are the differences from year to year in STANADYNE DB2 mechanical pumps? I have a tired '83 6.2L engine, 300k plus.  A friend has a brand new unused DB2 pump for a '88 6.2L that he is willing to sell me.(new baby took priority over his rebuild project)
will this pump work in my engine? will I need different injectors? (the ones I have now will be  rebuilt otherwise) I have tried to find an application chart online with no luck. the new pump externally looks the same as mine, just the data plate has differing numbers.  ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED !
THANK YOU !

Answer
Nestor,

Very good question.  There is very little information available about the different injection pumps and injectors.

The biggest difference I have discovered is what is called "light duty" and "heavy duty" applications.  Suburbans and vans are often classified light duty and the pick-ups are classified heavy duty.  The heavy duty injection pumps are likely calibrated to deliver a little more fuel than light duty pumps.

Also, there was a tendency to use more wear-resistant parts in the later (higher part number) injection pumps.

That said, I have a 1993 6.2L block, 2000 year model 6.5L heads, orange ring injectors, and an injection pump from the mid-1980s on my 83 G-20.  It runs perfectly.

I would get the injectors rebuilt and install the pump that you can get from your friend.  I think that you will find that everything will be just fine.
