Question
what timing r u refering to?i will re-do all the steps again and see what will hapend...but problem is that car is taking more fuel now then befor and its rise very quickly to 5000rpm in 1st or second gear but i dont feel the power that it should be,probably becouse the mixture fuel-air is not corect..i will also change the timing belt and balance shaft belt this weekend(hope to do it write)..i will keep u in touch and write u again if i find something (if its ok)

hi Dave,
i have a problem since i took out the air flow meter and thethrottle body for cleaning and painting..i measured the throttle position swich wich then didnt indicate good, but after i reajusted the indication was good (like descibed here http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/fuel-06.htm ),after i put all the parts back on my car and started the engine, the idle was very big about 1600 rpm...after i rotate  the throttle adjusment screw till he was maximum cloused the idle was little smaler about 1000 rpm..but the car dont have power now,not like before, and its runing deferently,i think little harder...and i cant adjust idle or i dont know how alse to adjast it.do u have any ideea please of what is happening?or what should i check again

Hi Daly,

I read the link about the throttle body repair and if you did all the steps they advise...and if you adjusted the position sensor correctly...then I really can't assist you further.  I'd just re-do all those steps in my head till I was convinced I did it perfectly...or do it again.

There is one crazy idea I just had.  How long has it been since the timing was set?  Is there any chance the timing was adjusted away from the specs to account for a poorly running throttle body and now that its clean the timing could be reset to the right numbers?

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Answer
Hi again...

The timing I'm referring to is VERY important.  It's the 'ignition timing' and it's referred to on the emissions sticker in the engine compartment.  It'll say something like: "Ignition Timing : 8 degrees before top dead center (TDC) at idle (600 rpm).  It represents when the spark plug fires in relation to the position of the piston...VERY important!  So in my example, the spark will fire 8 degrees before the piston reaches the top of it's upward motion.  The spark/explosion will push the piston down very quickly.

It is adjusted by turning the distributor housing after loosening its hold down bolt.  The amount of rotation is tiny, tiny, tiny, but it does make a difference if the timing is set incorrectly.  You need a timing light to do the job.

As for the easy revving to 5000, normally that would be a good thing.  Let's check the timing first.
