GM-GMC: Broken wheel lug Chev P/U, outer face, brake drum

Question
Hi Harry;
I have a 1995 Chev 3/4 ton P/U two wheel drive with a broken wheel lug on the left rear. Could you advise me how to remove the drum to replace the lug.
Thank you,

Answer
Brent,

With the vehicle safely supported on jack stands and the wheel and tire removed, you will have to hit the drum on its outer face, with a fairly good sized hammer.  Don't hit the other lugs with the hammer.

Hammering will induce vibration to break the rust and corrosion holding the drum to the axle hub.  Once it breaks free, the brake drum can be pulled off the lugs.

You should then be able to drive the broken lug out of the axle flange and install a new one.
