GM-GMC: Replacing fuel filter on 96 Chevy Suburban, fuel pump relay, ac delco

Question
Hi,

For the last week or so, my truck would'nt start sometimes.  It would turn over, but never start.  Sometimes, if I left the ignition in the on position for about thirty seconds before attempting to start it, it would start ok (could have been just a coincidence).

Today, it wouldn't start at all.  I replaced the fuel pump relay and the fuel filter, but it still won't start.  This is my first shot at replacing the fuel filter, and am unsure as to whether I put it on correctly or not.  One end is shallow.  Should that end face the front or rear of the vehicle?

Thanks in advance,

Dwaine

Answer
Most filters have an arrow indicating the direction of fuel flow.  The tip of th arrow should point towards the engine.

If you copy and paste the following URL into your browser, you will see a photo of an AC-Delco filter: http://198.208.187.182/internet/PartImage.jsp?mfgname=ACDELCO&prodlinecd=47&acpa...

In that photo, the left side of the filter should point toward the engine.  The right side is smooth and has no end cap that was welded or brazed when the filter was assembled.
