GM-GMC: 1995 Chev Truck Stop Light Switch, brake light switch, chev silverado

Question
I am unable to remove the stop (brake) light switch from atop the column.  I have the new part ready to install.

What do I need to do to remove the faulty part and install the new one?

The truck is a 1995 Chev. Silverado extended cab.

Answer
The brake light switch is difficult to get to under the best of circumstances.

You can lower the steering column, for more access, by removing the two hex nuts (usually require a 5/8" or 15 mm socket) on either side of the column.  It will drop down several inches and that may help you with the task.
