GM-GMC: 2001 chevy blazer, engine coolant, chevy blazer

Question
I noticed an odor that smells like engine coolant when I use the AC.  The engine coolant is full and the temp stays where it should.  what could be wrong?

Answer
It is likely that you have a pin hole leak in the heater core of your vehicle.

The smell is from the coolant spraying into the evaporator for the air conditining system.

The fact that the coolant level does not drop is a good sign that the hole is small.  It is probable that it will get worse over time.

You may wish to consider a product called "Bar's Leaks."  This is made of crushed ginger root and walnut shells and is required by GM for use in Northstar Cadiilac engines.  It will likely cure the problem.

Note that you want the product that is composed of brown liquid and that appears to have pea-like sediment in the bottom of the container.  Most auto parts stores sell it.
