GM-GMC: AC 1995 G Series Van, compressor cycles, c mode

Question
I have a 1995 G Series Van.  If the a/c clutch needs replacing because it is constantly off and on, off and on, would the a/c not work at all?  Would it then just blow but not cold?

Answer
It depends on how the system is operating.

In A/C mode, the compressor should not constantly cycle.  That is usually a sign of low Freon.

In Defrost mode, the compressor cycles on and off often and then stays off longer when the heating system takes over as the engine warms up.

I would check the system (or have it checked) for a low Freon level.
