GM-GMC: injection pump, chevy diesel, diesel emissions

Question
I've been coming to you with a few questions about my Chevy Diesel truck.
Finally, after not being able to get any diesel at the injection lines I went to a shop and they told me that my injection pump is bad. I was quoted $1300 just for the pump without labor.  So, I started looking at other options and I came across a guy that is parting out a 92 chevy with a 6.5 engine. I just went to see it, and it runs real good, it's a pretty clean engine. The problem is that the throttle control on mine is electronic, and his is mechanical. He said I could have any thing from his truck that I might need to make his engine fit my truck. The price is less than a new injection pump. My question to you is, do you think it's possible to adapt this mechanical throttle pump in my truck. Thank you for your help.

Answer
It is possible to adapt the mechanical throttle engine to your vehicle.

However, there are issues with the computer on your truck because it also controls the transmission.  You should do some research on a forum, such as www.gm-diesel.com, before attempting the conversion.

If you live in an area that has, or will be, checking diesel emissions, you may find that your vehicle will not pass the tests required for its model year (with the earlier engine installed).  This could result in a vehicle that could only be used on private property, such as a farm truck.

There are shops that can rebuild your injection pump, or you might find one on eBay, for less than $1,300.00.
