Steering Column Repair: 04 Saturn Ion, minute interval, saturn ion

Question
I have replaced a faulty ignition lock on an '04 Ion. The car will not start. I think I understand the procedure of cycling the lock to start 3 times over 10 minute intervals, but when I turn the key to start and let it fall to the run position, after a few seconds the security indicator(a silhouette of a car with a padlock) goes out. All information I have seen says this light should stay on or blink until the 10 minute interval is up, signaling the next cycling of the key. Am I missing someething? Thanks.

Typical GM lock cyl
Hi Eric:

It sounds like you understand the procedure and from your description the system has relearned the Passlock.
Here is our link to the relearn procedure if you just want to double check yourself.

I would next check the fuses for the IGN and Fuel pump circuits.  Lastly, I would take the lock cylinder out once again and make sure there is actually a small magnet on the side of the lock cylinder (picture enclosed).  without the magnet, the passlock will engage just as you are describing, thinking the lock has been compromised.  A wrong cylinder (one without the magnet) will do that.

Good luck
