GM-GMC: ignition coil, chev silverado, spark plug wire

Question
What are the symptoms of coil failure and can it affect tranny
shifting. I had tranny failure due to it going into limp mode all
the time. Now I have a rebuilt in there it seems that it hasn't
changed for the good. I had bad gas mileage and it didnt
improve. What was noticed was the coil wire was burned thru
and I blamed it on grounding out. There are times when I have
to push in coil wire after a trip. All ignition components have
been changed and I do regular oil chnge and tune-ups. That is
all I can suspect now. One more question; how long before a
rebuilt tranny gets to regular shifting and smooth operation?
Mechanic told me a couple hours of driving. Its an 88 chev
silverado 305 tbi ,automatic ,2 wheel. 407k but rebuilt motor 20
k ago. tranny just installed.(second in 2 yrs)

Answer
I don't think that ignition coil failure (if that is what your question is in reference to) would have anything to do with a transmission problem.

When coils fail they usually prevent the vehicle from starting  or stop it if it is running.  There is no "partial failure" mode for a coil.  A defective coil wire or spark plug wire, however, can cause missing and poor performance.

Your transmission rebuilder is either not proficient or there is something else wrong with your transmission.  When my 700R4 was rebuilt in 2001, it was perfect from the moment I left the shop and continues to work perfectly to the present time.
