GM-GMC: Replacing GMC engine, diesel van, torque converter

Question
I have a 1988 3500 Vandura van. I need to know how to pull out the engine. Actually if it is done from the top or bottom of the van or through the grill. Which is the best way? Thanks

Answer
Greg,

I went through the same questioning process with my 1983 G-20!

The front of your van has to be disassembled.  The grille and bumper will have to come off, along with the top radiator frame.  You can unbolt the transmission and torque converter and leave them in place.

You may also have to remove the carburetor or TBI fuel injector because the engine has to be lifted up enough to clear the motor mounts.  I have a diesel, and I have to remove the air cleaner, intake manifold, and harmonic balancer in order to be able to remove the engine.

I have accomplished this task twice with my diesel van, and it is not really that bad of a job.
