GM-GMC: 1995 6.5 L gmc turbo diesel problem, factory warrantee, gm dealer

Question
Hello:
I own a 1995 gmc 3/4 Ton diesel pick-up.I purchased it new and it now has 129K on it.Over the years it has had four injector pumps and drivers replaced (I think they were all rebuilts) under the factory warrantee. The truck is stalling more and more to the point where I am worried that it may not make it to the local store and back (1 mile r/t).It will start up just fine and run till how (usually 5-10min) before it will begin stalling. Most of the time you can restart the truck right away but sometimes it will require to cool off for 15-20 min. before it will restart.I have been told that it is likely the injector pump and the driver that is going bad.I have noted that the local repair shop has recomended that we replace both the pump and driver.I called the local gm dealer and their parts guy stated that they have a lot of call for the driver and keep it in stock but have little call for the actual pump and must special order that (very expensive at $1000.+).The driver runs about $350. and I have also seen via the internet that several people are selling it with a heat sink and harness extension for $500.The driver can then be re-located to the firewall or some other "cooler" location rather than its stock position. Here is the web site that is offering the replacement driver with heat sink and harness extension :www.duramax.bizhosting.com.On the site they suggest that it is a quick and easy job to plug in the new harness and relocate the new driver. Is it as simple as they state in your experence? I have alot of experence with gas engines but none with diesels. If I need to change out the injector pump and driver is it that difficult a job?
Thanks:
Frank

Answer
Diesels I do not get that much call to work on, But I know that GM has a knack for putting heat sensitive components in the hottest spot on or near the engine.

I am NOT aware of this relocation harness but it does seem feasible, But I have NEVER actually tried one. Therfore, I cannot say if it will work or not.

Changing out either coponent is not that difficult as long as you mark the location of the pump and the cavity in the engine where the pump inserts into. If you do NOT mark the position, This will effect the injection TIMING sequence.

I wish I could help you further, ut like I said, It is rae that I get a diesel.
