Honda: Transmission Locking in park, neutral safety switch, position switch

Question
Transmission will not consistently shift out of park. Not always and rocking the car has released it. Generally in colder weather and parked on an incline. Mechanic replaced the brake switch but that did not solve the problem.

Answer
If the brake lamp was the problem, the brake lamps would net be on during the failure. The most likely problem is the neutral safety switch (gear position switch)at the floor shifter under the console. Check the lamp on the dash during the failure, if the P for park is not lighting up then the neutral safety switch is definitely the failure.
