Mercedes: fuel pump, wheel suspension, diesel fuel

QUESTION: hi,where is the fuel pump in mercedes 1983?is it in  the

What model? and is this a gas or diesel engine? On the gas, I am not sure of the location, but you can check between the right rear wheel suspension and the fuel tank to see if there is an external pump package. If external,it may include two pumps and a large canister fuel filter.

the model is 300SD diesel. I need to exchange the fuel pump
and I `d like to know if I can do myself without removing

The pump may have access under the rear seat. If it is not visible from on the back of the tank at the rear axle. Remove the rear seat and see if it is there.
Be sure to remove enough fuel to be able to take off the inspection plate for pump removal without leaking diesel fuel on every thing. The stink is pretty bad.
