Mercedes: mercedes 99 clk convertible, backseat passenger, hydraulic failure

Question
Thanks so much for spending time to read and answer my question. The convertible top on my clk won't open! after I unlock it and push up the first segment, it won't stay up and just falls back down. I did notice though that there's this weird pipe thing hanging out of my car. It is located in the behind the backseat passenger-side tire. I think that it is a hydraulics rupture or something because I've been told they're common, but I'm not sure. Please help me!

Answer
Hello Howard,
The top requires some pretty significant timing to raise and lower the top. There are generally several servo switch that accomplish the various control functions.
The item that you mentioned is probably part of the problem. If you have had a hydraulic failure, look for lost fluid on the body parts.
With the engine running and a fully charged battery.
Cycle the top to see if it will actually operate under these conditions.
If not, you will need to begin researching the various components. if you recycle the the top fluid should be immediately presentif there is a leak.
The micro switch circuits must be in their respective positions before the next sequence will happen.

Good luck,
Rob
