Mercedes: 1981 Mercedes 300 SD trunk lock, mercedes 300, engine rev

Question
QUESTION: Hi, I can hear the solenoid or whatever click back at the trunk lock, but it won't release and open. Is there some way to get to the cable, back under the back seat or somewhere else, to pull on it alittle better, or is that a NO NO?

Thank you

ANSWER: Kenny,
You should be able to open the trunk with the key manually. Once open, I would operate the lock manually after applying some white grease. It sounds as though the lock needs some lubrication.
After you get it open, look for some form of adjustment to the release cable.
Good Luck

QUESTION: Hello,

I guess that I should have told you that I was able to get it open just ONCE with the key, after working it back and forth for what seemed like 10 or 15 minutes, when it might have only been 6 or 8 minutes. I even had a NEW key made and I've never been able to get it open again. Please help.

Thank you

Answer
Try this,
Take the battery terminals off, negative first then the positive. Go around to each lock the doors starting with the drive door then trunk and lock the doors.
Reconnect the battery beginning with the positive then negative.
Insert the key in the drive door. Have someone press down on the trunk lid while your turn the key to the unlock position. Hold the key until you  hear all the lock unload. Keeping pressure on the trunk lid, have the person lift the lid up. and see if that allows the lid to release.
Remember, some  models us vacuum and electrically actuated locks.
This should reset the alarm system if it has malfunctioned.

Try this if the first option failed. Get inside and start the engine rev it up to about 22 hundred and hold it for say 30 seconds, and then press down on the drive door lock. Wait a couple of seconds and pull up on the driver door lock.
Exit and try the trunk button, to see if the the trunk lid will release.
