Mercedes: Mercedes 190D 2.5 5 cylinder problems!, diesel repair shop, mercedes 190d

Question
Hi, after looking at this site and seeing how much you obviously know about mercedes i wondered if you could help me!

I have a quite few problems that have developed recently on my 190. Its a 89 model and its a 2.5 diesel non-turbo that has done 206,000 miles!

1st Prob: The car is now refusing to start, all the lights on the dash come on but no cranking!

2nd Prob: Recently the glow-plugs stopped working, then working again and again have stopped! The glow plug light had been coming on after you start the engine for about 50 seconds. BUT now the glow plug light is on continuosly whilst driving - I believe this may have flattened my battery? I drove about 40 miles like this, parked up, came back 30 mins later and drove home. Went out to the car after leaving it parked for 3 hours and nothing! The battery was completely dead!

3rd Prob: The "anti-jerk" system has packed up according to mercedes - whats this?

4th Prob: The car will not turn off when it is not hot, if i drive a short distance and turn off at the key it will carry on running. If i drive for over 20 mins it will turn off!

Thats all the problems on my old merc! Please please help!

Matthew.

Answer
Best guess:

#1. Neutral safe start switch failed, wire corroded off starter, bad starter.

#2. Failed glow plug relay.

#3. Could they be referring to ABS system???

#4. Vacuum system leak or failure.
