ANSWER: 1.)  Types:   Cars:   Coupes - 2 Doors + trunk, Sedan - 4 doors + trunk, Hatchback - 2 doors + pop open rear door, wagon - 4 door + pop open rear hatch, convertible - 2 door.  Then there are divisions like Compact, Sport Compact, Utility, Sports Utility, Rally...
So many choices its hard to say what is best.  To me, the best is a car that fits your personality, your needs, and your driving ability.   For example if you are just starting out you don't want to go right out and get a Mazda Rx-7 Twin Turbo or Corvette, because they are hard to control and one mistake can have serious consequences.  You mentioned several times about a motorcycle.  Motorcycles are fun and they get great fuel economy.  There are many times though that you wouldn't be able to ride it though... like rain/snow... Cold weather.  Times like those you would really want a car to just get you where you need to go.  A bike should be a secondary means of transportation.  I wouldn't recommend selling your car and just buying a bike.  If you keep your car and then get a bike in addition - That would be a wise decision.  Also, that way if one breaks down or has any trouble you have a backup too.  The same goes for a bike as a car as far as power and model though.  You probably don't want to start out on a 1000 cc bike for your first motorcycle.  If you start out with a 600 cc you will find that even a 600 has plenty of power to scoot right through ahead of traffic if you wanted too.  Another thing, if you aren't trying to move stuff around or do work a truck may not be the way to go.  Most trucks don't get the greatest gas mileage, nor do they have a very comfortable ride compared to cars or even suv's.  SUV's don't get very good gas mileage either, but they do offer plenty of passenger space and comfort.  SUV's and Trucks are easier to get in and out of than a lot of the cars out today.  The late models tend to be lower to increase aerodynamics and increase fuel economy.

I would say, if you want a bike then sign up for a rider's course and do the course and get comfortable... then when you got your Motorcycle permit, go for some test drives of various bikes before just buying one.  You wanna get something comfortable for sure.

Mitsubishi for cars: the four door one

Answer
Mitsubishi's - Now we're getting somewhere! lol...  The four doors.  Currently only the Galant and the Lancer are the only Mitsu's produced.  There was another option that was an excellent car that they stopped producing in the US around 2002/3, was the Diamante.  The Diamante was the most luxurious model of the mitsubishi sedans and has a simialar motor to the 3000GT... It is a really nice car!  The 1999 thru 2003 Galant looks a lot like the Diamante and replaced the Diamante all together.  Through the 2000's, Mitsubishi has been producing these Galant's with torquey 4-cyls. and V-6's that have power of a small v-8 and get better gas mileage than most 4 cylinders.(other than Toyota/Honda/Nissan)  You really couldn't go wrong with either one, although you may be able to get a better buy on the Galant and parts will be cheaper.  Also you want to go with the top of the models like the GTZ (V6/All Options) or ES (4 or 6 cyl with the options) basically because the parts are cheaper... everything from the break pads... to alternators and starters most of the time.   Another 4-door is the Lancer.  Its more of a sporty car that only comes with 4 cylinder motors.  The Evoloution models are scary fast with their turbo charged, tuned suspensions and  All-wheel drive.  They are compact and don't have much room and would probably feel cramped compared to the Maxima that you drive now.  Unless you are an enthusiast like I am, you probably wouldn't need the turbo/awd models... as there is more to break... but they sure are fun to drive.  There is also the Outlander... its kinda a crossover/wagon type thing.  Designed to compete with some of the subaru wagons.  Its a pretty neat vehicle.  They havent been made very long and are still pretty expensive.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Thinking about all of the options, I would probably suggest the Galant.  I have owned 3 of them before and now I am on my 4th.  A 1999, and I've had it for 2 years so far.  I love it and haven't had to do anything but a few oil changes!  The 3 others were great to me too.  One had a little trouble with burning a little oil at about 260k miles... when I sold it.
