Mitsubishi: carb problems...., mitsubishi galant, gas gauge

Question
hy Dinger,
ok..i have a 94 mitsubishi galant (1.6 L 4speed automatic) and recently it ran out of gas..and ever since it dies down when changing gears...its like when u press on the gas nothing happens-like theres air instead of fuel...BUT this only happens when i start the car in the morning-for abt 10-15 min and once the car is warm it works perfectly...could it be the carburetor? may be its got air in it or something..cos i tried 2 start the car after it ran out of gas and i was just pressing the accelerator 2 get it 2 the gas station-it kept dying all the way up there...and this problem was never there until it ran out of gas...!thnx 4 ur help--in advance...

Answer
Hey Rock,

It's not the carb, but you might try replacing the fuel filter. Your fuel pump may have sucked up junk from the bottom of the tank. Here's another scenario, Your gas gauge reads empty when there are 2 or 3 gallons left in the bottom of the tank. This is to provide cooling for your fuel pump... Yeah, you might have burned up the fuel pump and may have to replace it. See how the filter deal works and if that doesn't fix it, resubmit to me and I will look at different scenarios.
