Mitsubishi: Key will not turn, mitsubishi diamante, brake switch

Question
i won a 1994 Mitsubishi Diamante.  I have driven it for 5 years now.  It has sat in my yard for 5 months and I went to go move it and when you insert the key into the ignition, you have to yank on the wheel to get it to lock and the key still will not turn.  After yanking on the wheel for a good 5 minutes and stepping on the brake(which I don't know why I did that, but it seemed to start locking up the brake also) it finally turned over and started just fine.  There usually is a lock button or something to get it to unlock, but could not find it and was looking to see if there is something else I could be doing for it.

Answer
Hi Kelly,

There is a solenoid that is part of the anti-theft device that could be defective. Also, a bad brake switch will do this. To check the brake switch, have someone stand behind the car while a person inside presses on the brakes. If the tail lights don't come on then that is the problem. The brakes got tight because you had pumped all the vacuum boost out of the system, it will be fine when you get it started. If the brake lights work then it will be in the column. Tough to do yourself. You might have to seek a garage. Cottman Transmission diagnoses this stuff for free. Hope this helps!

Follow up: Hi Kelly, just was wondering if you got it started or not...
