Mitsubishi: 95 Talon TSI Idle, pep boys, transmission shop

Question
Hi I have a 95 Eagle Talon TSI Automatic with 140,000 miles and I am having idle problems.  I just had the top end redone due to a cracked gasket.  But before then I was having problems keeping idle up when the car was cold and keeping idle down when the car is warmed.  And when placed in park it has a variable idle of 700 - 1200 when cold and 1500 - 2700 when warm.  I was told it was do to the blown head, but it hasn't gone away.  I also have been told that cyclinders 2 and 3 have low compression.  I need help as to any clues it could be from.

When driving it runs smoother in gear2 vs. drive. I feel the loss of power when the boost guage reads 6 or when I accelerate quickly but the power returns when I reach 3.5 to 4 rpm.

Any advise.

Thaks
Sean

Answer
Hi Sean,

Idle problems are rearly due to lower end problems like compression because not much compression is needed to idle. If it had just a miss, then maybe. Your problem lies in one of two areas. Fuel delivery or eletronic. Because your car actually runs, it is not spark or electrical. It's fuel delivery. Now, fuel delivery is regulated by a number of sensors. Have you had your car scanned for DTC's? This can be done for free at a Cottman Transmission shop or a Pep Boys. We need to start here first. Once you have it scanned please re-submit with the Diagnostic Trouble Codes. This will tell us what action to take next. Please keep me posted.
