Mitsubishi: Motor mounts, other mounts, mitsubishi eclipse, sypder

Question
Hello,
I have a Mitsubishi Eclipse Sypder and I had the motor mount replaced today. It has since been suggested that this seemed suspicious, that a motor mount should not go bad. I had this replaced at a cost of $256. The part was $169. I was told there is also a transmission mount broken and a front stop mount broken but I chose not to deal with those today. Does this sound like something reasonable, and should I have the others fixed right away? Thank you.

Answer
Hi Kathy,

Mounts used to be like $20. Now, over night, they are $300. You have 4 in your car. Mounts are referred to front, rear, left and right. Some cars have an upper one also. To get to those mounts to replace them, you need to remove a sub-frame. Taking care of them all at once would save a good bit of labor. If you have a bad mount it puts stress on the good ones causing them to fail sooner. It's a good idea to do them all at once. I know, they are expensive. Honda has a vacuum operated mount that is $700! Just for one! It is not uncommon to have more then one broken mount due to what I explained above.
