Oldsmobile/Buick: Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais, oldsmobile cutlass, rust spots

Question
I've recently brought a 1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Calais, T-Top, 231 ci V6. It was shipped out to New Zealand (Where I live) from Riverside, CA & has only done 98000 original miles. It has had only one owner from new & it came with a box of all the original manuels/ documents.

The only problems so far have been the brake system (I wont even go into that), the fuel pump leaking & the seat recliner locks not working. All of these have been fixed or replaced & are ok now (to my surprise there were'nt even any holes drilled in the recliner lock system so it could work, no wonder it did'nt work -lack of safety checks at the time I wonder!?)

Anyway, to my questions: What kind of 'status' do these cars have back in the USA? Are they still very common? Are parts hard to find?
I've read that only around 24,000 '84 T-Top Cutlass Calais were made, do you think this will become a classic/collectable car in the near future?
Also what are some problems that I should be on the look out for? Where do rust spots usually appear etc?

Answer
Harley ,

Sorry its taken me so long to reply. These cars are extremely common in the US. Most parts are readily available and can be swapped between G-Bodies. Rust spots to usually look out for are above the B-Pillar , rear tire wells(near leafs) and especially around the T-Tops.

The collector market is only not starting to grow. Interior parts haven't become that common yet.

Sounds like you've got a beauty.

If you have any more questions please feel free to ask . Don't forget to rate my response to you.
