Oldsmobile/Buick: 99 Oldsmobile Intrigue-ABS Light, oldsmobile intrigue, gm dealership

Question
The place that I took it to has ASE Certified tech's on board.  I went back and got the two codes from him which is:C1246 rear abs channel and C1286 sterring sensor bias.  It sounds like it could just be sensors, but I'm no mechanic. I don't want to get taken to the cleaners by having something done that doesn't need to be done.  He said the whole ABS system may need to be replaced.  I don't want to really have to spend that much money and I don't want to keep driving the car the way that it is.

Thanks,
Doreen

I have a 99 Olds Intrigue and the anti-lock light is on along with the brake light. Car has about 106,400 miles. I have taken car to shop and they hooked up computer and got two codes out of the machine.  Didn't tell me much except that it was okay to drive. I don't feel very comfortable with this.  And ideas or hints as to what could be wrong with car.  I don't want to keep taking car from place to place and have to pay to have them tell me same thing.

Answer -
Doren ,

I would take the car down to a qualified ASE Certified technician or a GM dealership. In reality the mechanic should have told you the problem codes. Most of the time it comes up as a faulty sensor or relay causing the light to come on .

Hope this helps , --->Don't forget to rate my response to you

Answer
Doreen ,

ABS brake problems can be expensive to repair . Ask the technician for an explanation of each code and what it would take to rectify the problem. Also ask why the entire ABS system would have to be replaced.

If the price is too high then shop around for another price . Safety should be key , and again even if the price is high , taking the car to a GM specific dealership should be an option .

Hope this helps,
