Oldsmobile/Buick: Transmission trouble?, oldsmobile cutlass ciera, oldsmobile cutlass

Hi, I have a 1986 Oldsmobile cutlass ciera, Automatic. I do not know much about cars but when I shift into a driving gear such as reverse or drive, the tranny drops into gear. It literally makes a DROPPING sound. also when I step on the gas to accelerate quickly, the entire car shakes vigorously. I have no idea what this could be. Could you Please help?

Sounds to me like a definate transmission problem . I would have the car looked at by an ASE certified mechanic . For transmissions its always rule of thumb for the consumer to get two opinions , since the majority of service ceters specializing in that work will want a complete install .
