Oldsmobile/Buick: 1989 Olds Cutlass Ciera, olds cutlass ciera, pressure coolant

Question
Hi Ed...I don't know if you can help me out but here it goes
anyway...this just happened this morning for the first time since
I've owned the car and I don't know what to make of it...I was
exiting from the highway and had my right turn signal on and all
of sudden the sounds of bells or more like dings, like ding, ding,
ding, ding started to go off for about 15 seconds and then it
finally stopped...do you know why the oldsmobile would
produce sounds like this while driving?  It's never done it before
while I'm driving...It's the same sound as when you have the key
in the ignition and open a door or when you leave your lights on
after the car is stopped to alert you...I guess it's an alert sound,
but to what?  I appreciate your help...Jay

Answer
Jay ,

Most cars have a basic warning system setup . Like a computer the car will give you a beep or sound to tell you if :

1. The door/trunk is open

2. Keys left in the ignition with driver side door open

3. Headlights left on

4. Low- Oil,gas,temp,oil pressure , coolant

And the list goes on . For your particular Oldsmobile I couldn't find any information . The owners manual would probably be your best bet .

If you don't own the manual then try e-bay or (http://www.bumperbooks.com/id118.htm) .

If the car is in running order = Fluids up to par , then you should be in the clear . Most of the oldsmobiles I've worked on up to the early 90's w/digital dash's or without eventually have problems . In your case (and this is reaching) a relay/sensor .

Jay , I wish I could have been of more help to you . If you have any more questions please feel free to ask . It might not hurt to call the dealer or an ASE certified mechanic and ask them . Maybe they'll put your nerves to rest right over the telephone .

Don't forget to rate my response to you .

Cheers,

Ed McKenna
