Oldsmobile/Buick: Oil Leak, cutlass ciera, timing pulley

Question
87 Cutlass Ciera 2.5
I have a leak in the front oil seal, behind the pully.
I have replaced the seal several times, I even replaced the whole timing cover, still leaks.
What should I do?
The pulley looks ok.
Is the pulley suppose to help seal?
The oil just comes out through where the pulley goes in.

Answer
Dale ,

Timing covers are tricky business . Without me physically looking at the engine its hard to say . Below is a more technical description of what your problem sounds like (to me) .

Timing Cover Base Nut.
A leak can emanate along the threads of the base stud and this may be incorrectly diagnosed as a timing pulley leak. It is recommended that the threads of the stud and faces of the fibre washer are coated with gasket compound before fitting.

The pulley can leak =) sorry to say .
