Oldsmobile/Buick: 1996 olds 88 egr valve, fuel pressure regulator, egr valve

Question
ed-- my check engine lite turns on at the same time the engine is started---i  suspect  that
the egr valve needs cleaning---is the location
on the drivers side behind the intake manifold?
---it appears that it has two metallic small  pipes leading to the valve---if that is the valve could you tell me how i can service and clean it---recently i had new intake manifold
installed and a new fuel pressure regulator also
--car has run fine for about two months since these repairs and continues to do so--only problem is that the check engine lite never goes off---thanks for any help and advice you can give me----joe

Answer
Joe,

I am not familiar with newer cars at all . I have really no idea of how to clean the EGR valve . I have said it a hundread times over and over again I despise dummy lights with a passion .

Joe, below I have listed a pretty good web site which tells you how to clean your EGR assembly . I can only tell you that if you had a new Intake put on the EGR valve should be fine .

Sometimes it could be something as simple as one of the sensors that leads to that dash light . I just unhooked mine=)
