Oldsmobile/Buick: changing dash lightbulbs, needle nose pliers, analog gauge

Question
1988 Olds 98 Regency with analog gauge package.

One or two dash lights are out.  How do I remove the dash to get at the bulbs?
Thanks Ed!

Answer
Michael ,

Honestly it is not easy with any G-body car . Since I believe every dash is a little different I am going to give you a general idea . My car had a bezel that was pretty much the entire covering of the speedometer etc. Once I removed this I could pull out the tach/pressure combo and simply replace the bulbs . The ones behind the speedomter are very hard to remove . They involve you to pull the paneling off directly underneath the steering wheel. Most of the times if you have the special vent that is a little ways down , that would have to come out as well .

After you get the paneling off (if you can) reach all the way up to the back of the cluster and try and replace the bulbs . I used a pair of long needle nose pliers to get up in there . The best way to do it is to try and disconnect those long cables that go to the speedometer . If you can get that off then you wouldn't even have to pull all that moulding off . Simply said it is a huge hassle but well worth it if you can pull it off . Inspection stations in DC charge an excess of 50-60$ to replace the little blue high beam bulb in your dash and for good cause . $2 bulb , $50 in labor .

Well Michael best of luck, if you have any more questions or maybe I didnt answer this one feel free to send me another . Don't forget to rate my response to you .
