Pontiac: Weird Problem, air bag deployment, pontiac grand am

Question
Hi! I recently bought a 99 Pontiac Grand Am.  When I took it home, I noticed the horn did not work.  I changed the fuse and the horn started working again.  About 2 a.m. that night, the horn started going off (not the alarm, just a steady horn sound).  I had to take out the fuse in order for it to stop.  We had the relay fuse changed and two days later this happened again at 8 a.m.  But instead, I pressed the horn several times until it went off.  I was wondering if you could help me find a solution to this problem!  Thanks

Answer
OK, What you have, In most cases, Is a TEMPERATURE SENSITIVE HORN PAD/Switch on the steering wheel.

What happens is that when the temperature changes the horn button contacts are so close together that when the pad gets COLD the horn switch contacts touch together and the horn blows, Usually in the wee hours of the morning and this does NOT make for happy neighbors.

IF you have an AIR BAG on the steering wheel, Do NOT make ANY attemp to remove the AIR BAG as there are SPECIFIC procedures for de-activating the AIR BAG to insure that it does NOT accidently deploy.

I STRONGLY suggest that you have a professional facility perform this repair.

Should you accidently deploy the air bag you can be seriously injured and or KILLED due to the massive force of the air bag deployment.
