Pontiac: Fuel system, pontiac sunfire, gas tank

Question
In my last question I asked how to test my fuel pump on my 96 Pontiac Sunfire. You said to test the gray wire connected to the Fuel Pump. Do I have to remove the fuel tank to check that gray wire? I found several wires by the gas tank and some run to the back wheels. The other group of wires run under the fuel tank. Both of these sets of wires plug into a outlet connected to the bottom of the car. I am better with mechanical systems on cars. I am not too good with wiring. If I need to drop the tank how do I disconnect the fuel lines from the tank? I have already disconnected the rubber fill hose from the tank to see the wires that I taked about before. The small fuel lines have some kind of weird connector on the end. I beleive there is three small gasoline lines. I tried to swap the two relays like you said without any change. My daughter ran the car very low on gasoline. My dad said that you run a chance of burning out your fuel pump by doing so. Is this true?

Thanks Again

Answer
No, you dont have to remove the tank to test the pump. The gray wire that runs to the top of the tank is the power for the pump. Check to see if you have power on that wire when the key is first turned on. It should only get hot for about 2 seconds.
To remove the fuel lines:
If the clips on the fuel lines are a white or clear colored clip. squeeze the ears together and pull the lines apart.
If the clips are blue and green, unlatch the bottom side of the clip and then push the clip upwards.
