Porsche: dead battery, fuse puller, fuse panel

Question
Hi Rodney,

I have a 2000 Boxster S and I left the headlights on and the battery went dead.  I manually unlocked the car with the key, but cannot pull the lever to open the front trunk lid.  I have removed the fuse panel cover in an attemt to jump the lid fuse, but there is NO terminal in the fuse box with a "lid" picture on it (as shown in the owner's manual).  The dealer doesn't have anything to charge the car in order to open the lid.  HELP!!  I have ordered a cigarette lighter charger, in which one end inserts into the cigarette lighter and the other end has 2 alligator clamps to attach to a donor battery.  I have purchased a donor battery to attempt this, but am afraid of screwing up the electrical system.  Is there another way to manually open the front trunk lid to replace the battery?

thanks,
Cheryl

Answer
The procedure you describe in the owner's manual is the correct method of opening the front lid.  The terminal may not be labelled correctly, but it must be there.  It is always red and is in the top right quadrant of the panel.  There should also be a yellow, plastic fuse puller that is used to pull it out about an inch so that you can connect a jumper cable to it.  The charger that you ordered will probably be sufficient to pop the hood too.  You can always have the car towed to the nearest Porsche dealer as well.  Good luck!
