Saab: Saab 900 S, neutral safety switch, saab 900 s

I have a 95 Saab 900 Conv. The check gear box light has begun to come on when it is put into drive. At that point it will not accelerate. If I restart the light will go off and drive. I have been told its the netural safety switch that needs to be replaced and the engine mount. Any thoughts.

 My hands-on experience is limited to the pre-1993 900's as noted in my profile, so I can only respond in general terms.
However, it sounds like to have an internal gear box problem. Is does NOT appear to be either a neutral safety switch or motor mount problem from your description.
