Motorcycle Repair: HONDA REBEL 250, honda rebel 250, overflow tube

Question
Not sure if this can be ans.  without actually looking at the bike, but here goes....  Honda Rebel 2007 250cc.  Bought brand new about 2wks ago.  fell today, due to the wind, seems to have leaked gas.  Bike was laying down for couple of hours.  Gas tank still has gas in it.  possible just because it was on its side for hours, a little leaked out, or do you think it could be a major problem....  sorry if this is stupid questions, but looking at it, didn't see anything obvious.  thank you.

Answer
Kathy, sorry to hear of the accident to your brand new Honda! :>(

When bikes are left on their sides, the gas in the float bowl usually gets dumped out via the overflow tube and/or goes down the carburetor into whatever cylinder has an open intake valve.

I would recommend taking out the spark plugs and then kicking the motor over for a few seconds to clear any fuel inside the cylinders. Put the plugs back in and then try to start it up again. Check the oil level before you start it back up, though. Bike needs to be upright/vertical and then dip the oil stick in and check it. Do NOT screw it back in to check the level, as that will throw off the level reading.

Bike should be okay, other than whatever damage it may have sustained in the fall. Check your controls, mirrors, brake or shift lever, plus turn signal mounts for any kind of damage or misalignment from the way it was previously.
