Saab: Turn signal, left turn signal, neutral position

My turn signal has gone crazy! Down (left signal) causes the left signal to go on, as usual. But the neutral position (middle), which should be "off" still has the left turn signal go on. Up (which should be the right signal) causes the turn signal to go off. I have no way to make the right signal go on. (Summary: down and middle are "left", up is "off", there is no "right"). Help?! Thanks!

  As noted in my profile, my hands-on experience is limited to the pre-1993 900's,and since you did not specify your SAAB's year/model, my advice may or may not apply.
  It sounds like a bad switch (the one mounted on the steering column.)
