Saab: 1992 Saab 900S CS pos sensor test., 1992 saab 900s, faulty sensor

Question
My Saab has a I'm miles. While it always starts at the first turn the engine immediately revs to about 2700 and then falls off and revs back up and down before falling into an idle. Then for the for the first 5 or so miles it hesitates taking too much throttle. Eventually it starts to accelerate smoothly. However this morning it wouldn't crank at all. I pulled an ignition wire and jumped off an external well grounded spark plug and had no spark. Also no fuel in the rail. Also the tack needle doesn't jump when its being cranked. The rotor and cap have been cleaned of any carbon build up which has been an on going problem in the past. Based on what I've described is it fairly safe to assume I have a faulty sensor? I've heard that the pump is dependent on ignition. Is there any other simple test I can make. All I have is a very inexpensive multimeter.

Thanks in advance

Ric

Richard:
Sounds like you might have a failing crankshift position sensor. I provided an extensive discussion on this very topic in this forum a few weeks ago, and I recommended simple tests that a multimeter could perform. Try that and if you need any more info, please do not hesitate to contact me again.

PS:  Both the fuel pump, tachometer,  and ignition sparks are dependent on this sensor.
