Saab: Replacing Drive belt 1997 Saab 900 S automatic 4 cylinder 2.3 boost, heather heather, saab 900 s

Question
Dear Jerry
I recently had the misfortune of having the serpentine drive belt wear off of my vehicle. I was aware of the rubbing and was expecting it, so luckily it happened in my driveway. The belt did not break off but is actually still connected just hanging there with one side shredded, stringy rubber strips. Obviously I have to replace the belt. I currently have it on hold at the parts store however I am told I need a diagram of the drive belt actually on the vehicle in order to correctly put it back. I also need to know which parts (my neighbor has the proper tools and wrenches) I will need to remove in order to access and replace the belt. I am assuming I will be working from above the vehicle but was wondering if I will need to get under the car as well? My car is a 1997 Saab 900 S 4 cylinder w/ a 2.3 boost, w/ automatic transmision. I appreciate any and all info you may offer to assist.
Sincerely Heather

Answer
Heather:
As noted in my profile, my hands-on experience is limited to the older 900's(Pre-1993). I can, however recommend a website that has the very best info on your vehicle (and any other) that I know of; it is <www.alldatadiy.com> and runs $25/vehicle/year, but very worth it for a do-it-yourselfer!
BTW, if you intend to do the work yourself, I heartily applaud you!!

                       Hope this helps,
                                 Jerry
