QuestionMechanic just informed me that the fuel pump is out on my '97 900s. The car is not worth me paying a mechanic and wondering where I can find detailed instructions for replacing this part.
Also wondering if this is the type of job that should be left to the professionals.

My hands on experience is limited to 1993 and older SAABS. However, their design tends to be quite conservative (changes very slowly, if ever!), so that the info below, from my experience is likely applicable:
Changing a SAAB fuel is actually quite easy...if you have some special tools. The fuel pump is located in the fuel tank, accessible from trunk, under the floor covering. If handy mechanically, you may be able to "rig up" a tool.
The very best place to get VERY detailed info is by subscribing to a site online...$25/year per vehicle, but absolutely worth it! It has the most comprehensive info, as well as many printable diagrams, etc. I have ever seen. As a do it yourselfer, it will pay many many times over. The site is:
