Saab: 2002 Saab 9-3, mileage unit, cost effective solution

Question
Recently my car broke down while driving. Upon my mechanic's initial inspection, he told me i was looking at $3500 worth of damage. Apparently my timing belt had "slipped" off during driving and caused damage to my valves and pistons. I actually have two questions, first, does this sound like fair pricing, and second, would it be cheaper just to get a used engine block instead? My car only has about 63,000 miles.

Answer
Actually, as stated, my expertise "ends" with the model 900. However, after some research I determined that used engines for your vehicle are very scarce, and would probably cost around $1,500 + 600-1000 to install IF you could find a lo mileage unit in good shape. Ordinarily, a used engine replacement offers the most cost effective solution, but unfortunately, NOT for your vehicle.
The $3,500 quote now begins to sound a little more palatable, painful tho it may be!
